In this fragment, preserved in the Oxyrhynchus papyrus 2737, Eratosthenes discusses the early career of the Athenian comedian Plato, who, as long as he gave his comedies to others to produce, had done well in the dramatic contests. When however he first produced (presumably at the Dionysia festival) a play himself, he only placed fourth and was sent back to the less prestigious contest at the Lenaea.
